“Confessional” performance aims to create an interactive space in which an individual can be compassionate to themself without the need for an upper being. There is not an ordinary priest in the confessional booth, but an artist who explores their own nature and the weaknesses of humanity. What is to be realized is not an ordinary ritual but a sequence of mutual confessions; the artist makes a self-confession in exchange for everything confessed by the participants. Diren demands that the audience participate in order to start to the performance.
Unlike traditional ritual, every conversation in the confessional booth is reflected to the environment and the street through sound installations so that all audiences can hear. Thus confession is transformed into a conscious “self-disclosure” process for each participant. This performance also has a special meaning for the artist because it was through this performance that they have opened up to their family.
