Holographic Installation
Diren Demir
Idols were figurines that people used to represent the deities they worshiped in ancient times. The oldest of these are the statuettes of the Goddess Cybele, the representative of concepts such as “fertility” and “abundance”, found in Göbeklitepe. From a pagan perspective, the Goddess symbolizes the feminine energy of the universe and has been associated with the Moon for centuries. The phases of the Moon, on the other hand, express different stages of development of human consciousness; Child, Mother, Elderly Wise. We are faced with a hologram that includes these 3 states of the moon and has an idol function. This image is accompanied by the sounds recorded by NASA from the surface of the Moon in the background and the pagan recitation of the names of the 7 main Goddesses. In this respect, the “Goddess” installation is a tribute to divine feminine energy, as it reminds us of a matriarchal understanding that is much different and older than the “masculine” understanding of god, which has formed the basis of patriarchal societies and binarism throughout history. With the presentation of an archaic concept such as an idol as an installation of light within innovative frameworks, it is aimed to bring new philosophical questions to mind.
