Many of us have similar memories of the architectural structures we constructed from the sofa cushions in the living room of the house in our childhood. The Shelter Sculpture aims to bring childhood memories to the surface and reveal our unspoken common memory. The fabric shadows and cushion details on the sculpture reinforce the vividness of these memories.
The Shelter sculpture is a modernist representation of architectural spaces created by the child’s hand from pillows. The sculpture can be entered individually, it creates a harmonious contrast between private and public space. The sculpture is integrated into the circulation of movement and stillness of all the sitting and playing areas in the park.
